I have to say that like a lot my study program. Social work studies a wide range of topics, and i can learn from basic sociology, to philosophy and epistemology. But there are some thing that i would change. I really rthink we need to study more deeply a couple of autors, classic ones that pop up in almost every single text we have to read; like Wittgenstein and Freud and Lacan. We do not have lectures about them and they appear always in almost every reference. And also we need to focus more on public policies, real ones, because a lot of us are gonna end working on municipalities or in the State, so we need more experience on that field, in order to e better social workers, and get respect as a University of Chile's graduates in the labour market. The workload is fine, the length of the career is average, so it's normal. The facilities (when we are in a presential mode) are fine, actually i like a lot Juan Gomez Millas campus, even the old FACSO building, it's quite char...

Blog post 6 - Time travel to the future

Image
I'm not sure if i want to go to the future. Imagine this: the present is scary as hell, it's quite a horrible place to live. There is literally fire in the ocean because of a oil spill. Mega corporations and billionares will go personally to the space (Musk, Branson, Bezos). We in Chile are in the middle of a mega-drought, and in te south pole there was a temperature of 18° celsius. I mean, we, today, are quite doomed. So in the future? I don't believe it's gonna be much better. I would like to stay right here, in Chile, and see our shores dissapear. We don't know yet if it is possible to go to the future, but if we can, i would stay here, and probably, around 300 years in the future. i don't hace too much faith in the human race to save the planet, and i think it's gonna be ver post-apocaliptyc. Like Mad Max where there are wars for the last fresh water. Or in like Waterworld where the poles melted completely and all the reamain human race lives in the wat...

Post 5 - My future job

Image
I'm studying Social Work, so my future dream job it's related to that. I've always think that the elderly people in this country are left behind; pensions, social security, and even public policies are not always done with the elderly on mind. So i would like to work on the SENAMA (Elderly national service). I would like to investigate, to travel across the country to check, evaluate and oversee how the elderly people are treated in their retirement homes, or if there are public policies in the Municipality that needs to be fixed. I just want a salary that allows me to have a decent home, and let me help my parents economicaly. I would like to do a master´s degree, apart from my specialization on undergraduate. A master degree could help me in my porpuse of work on the state's administration. Probably i could take a Social Work master degree, but ther is also a very cool one about systemic analysis applied to society, that investigate the society as a complex mechanism...

Coming back with an Ex (easy, i'm talking about comics)

Image
For literally years, in Mercadolibre website, there was an product that never sold, never moved from there. And ocasionally, ive always come back to see it. It was kind of expensive (?), but i always dreamed to finallly having the money to purchased it. And the day arrived. It was a comic book, a very niche, little-known one: "Madman" from Michael Allred. The day it arrived i was so happy, because ten years later, i'm coming back with an old love: comic books.  There is a ton of comicbooks, from the well-known DC comics or Marvel, but also, there is a lot of 'indie' comics, or adult ones, that catch my attention. In those comics, there is no "good vs evil" plot; it is more complicated than that. 'Magog' for example literally questions the rol of superheroes. 'Persépolis' and 'Maus', tell us very dark and crude stories. 'Here' tells the story of a place, very abstract.  And now, i'm able to have those comics. This is m...

Blog 3 - My Profession

Image
This time i gotta talk about my career. It's not my profession yet, because i'm studying right now in university but i hope i can dedicate myself to this in the future.  My career is Social Work. It's a discipline that combines a lot of the general aspects on social sciences, and puts them in a blender, that tries to reach a wide range of applications on real life. Social Work works on "the tension", the space where structures failed to the people, and this discpline tries to understand that tension, and it's goal is to help those in need in that tension. It's a very appealing career, because a can learn a wide range of topics, on sociology, psychology, philosophy, history and political science. And historically, has more employability. The most jobs come from the public sector (municipality, the state) and i like that, i like to work on the public sector, that's why i choose this university. Being able to study from dense theory, like epistemology, a...
